AnnotationFollowing on from its previous consultation process, the Government's strategies for tackling age discrimination and helping unemployed older workers into employment are outlined. These are discussed in terms of: establishing a coherent strategy; tackling age discrimination in employment; help for unemployed people; themes considered in the `Learning age' green paper; and developments concerning early retirement and occupational pensions, the pensions review, volunteering, and the Pre-Retirement Association (PRA). The possibility of legislation on age discrimination has not been ruled altogether. However, the Government intends to adopt a more wide-ranging approach which advocates: adopting a coherent strategy across Government which takes age issues into account in all policy making; introducing innovative approaches to helping older workers find work; and promoting the benefits of an age-diverse workforce, to challenge and change attitudes and stereotypes which lead to age discrimination in employment.
