AnnotationA previous study by the authors, `A framework for understanding older adults' civic behaviour', is used to examine a method of merging data from literary and historical subjects with live interview transcripts. The strengths and weaknesses of the methodology are discussed. Suggestions for incorporating conventional data sources in social science research include consideration of selection issues and process, media choice, depth, context, and voice. In retrospect, the authors realised that only through combining the three data sources did they understand the progression of behaviours their subjects described. (RH).
