Annotation | A model of the decision to change the self was adapted and applied to dietary change. Data were analysed from personal interviews with 155 married men. Threat, efficacy, and commitment were investigated in relation to dietary change. Threat and feelings of efficacy did not directly affect change. Rather, dietary efficacy enhanced commitment which was associated with greater dietary change. The differential response of older men to food behaviour may reflect the relaxation of some gendered roles in later life. Implications for practice are noted. (RH). |
