AnnotationThe purpose of this paper is to assess contemporary social policy in Poland in the context of its rapidly changing social, political and economic institutions, and a highly dynamic ideological environment. It focuses on socio-demographic trends since 1989, to interpret the effect of these contemporary trends on citizens. Recommendations are offered on the types of services appropriate to groups affected by these trends, and what societal organizational structures might be most appropriate to serve these groups. The role of social work is considered. (RH).
