History and physical examination of elderly patients with dementia | Author(s) | Sanford I Finkel, Cheryl Woodson |
Journal title | International Psychogeriatrics, vol 9, supplement 1, 1997 |
Pages | pp 71-76 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Diagnosis ; Doctors ; United States of America. |
Annotation | The role of the physician is critical in the evaluation of cognitively impaired patients for two reasons: the longitudinal relationship between the patient and physician provides a unique opportunity to observe changes over time, generating confidence that may encourage the patient and family to report any concerns; and early diagnosis enables early intervention. This article describes a suggested practice of the diagnosis of dementia, from the initial interview to informing the patient. (AKM). |
