Annotation | Research has shown that rural older people in the United States (US) face disadvantages in health, housing, income, and access to services, however, the degree and nature of these disadvantages have only begun to be identified and examined. The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of current knowledge about rural older people in the US, focusing on their life conditions, diversity, and services and public policies. Specific topics covered include: economic status, work and retirement; rural-urban contrasts in health status; the mental health of rural older people; older rural women; older rural African-Americans; poverty; the impact of elderly migration on rural communities; and residential differences in the oldest old.
