AnnotationThis practice guide aims to assist staff who regulate and inspect services, by providing information about dementia and some of the issues that arise in the group care of people with dementia. It also identifies key areas in which standards need to be set. It outlines differences between confusion, depression and types of dementia. Aspects of service provision are discussed concerning the building, staffing, care planning, decision-making capacity of those with dementia, and the law and dementia. Communication, dealing with challenging behaviour, incidence of abuse, eating, and activities are also covered. A fundamental principle of this guide is that people with dementia have a right to the same range of options and support as other vulnerable people. (RH).
