Annotation | Developing community treatment and care alternatives to meet the complex needs of older people with mental health problems and their carers is challenging for both service commissioners and providers. Information in this feature is drawn from a literature review on community service developments for older people with mental health problems, alongside a 1997 mapping of community located service provision. Developments are considered as follows: closer working with primary care; treatments and care in, or in the vicinity of, a person's home; changed use of day services; and use of existing community facilities.
