AnnotationThis special issue is devoted to urinary incontinence in older people, containing guidelines for clinicians, consumers, caregivers and directors of nursing within nursing facilities. It begins with quick reference guidelines for physicians, issued by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) panel of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The following two chapters, aimed at caregivers and older people themselves, cover causes and management of urinary incontinence, and risks and benefits of treatment. The final chapter, aimed at directors of nursing, provides information on establishing, implementing and continuing continence programmes in long-term care facilities. A bibliography of selected pharmacotherapy studies of treatment of urinary incontinence is included. (AKM).
