Annotation | Many of the consequences of being HIV+ have some implications for the design and facilities of accommodation. Home improvement agencies (HIAs) have a significant role in enabling people to plan for the changing nature of their condition. This report suggests that HIAs' core operational procedures - major repair works, funding, technical and financial advice - may be readily adapted to help clients with distinctive needs. It estimates the market for HIA services for those who are HIV+ or living with AIDS, the conditions which give rise to the need for HIA services, and how HIAs might use their experience in meeting the needs of those with HIV/AIDS. Equity release and monitoring arrangements are also discussed. The authors suggest that, with minor modifications to their service, HIAs have the potential to offer support to small client groups, and make recommendations accordingly. (RH). |
