Annotation | This is one in a series of 6-monthly surveys, which aims to provide information about and trends on people sleeping rough in central London. The figures recorded represent a baseline of those who are visible: it excludes those in parks, basements or other inaccessible areas. This survey estimates that one in eight of those included were aged over 60. It also includes information about the 48 emergency night shelters and short stay hostels across London. It indicates that the problem of street homelessness was at best being contained. Collaboration between the Departments of Health and the Environment (DoH and DOE) in RSI3 (third phase of the Rough Sleepers Initiative) and other co-ordinated work will be necessary to end the need for anyone to sleep rough.
