Annotation | The National Health Service (NHS) began collecting information about the ethnic groups of hospital patients in April 1995. Ethnic group is now a mandatory item in the Contract Minimum Data Set (CMDS) for Admitted Patient Care covering inpatients and day patients. This paper is based on information gathered through interviews with managers and professionals in both purchasing and providing organisations. It aims to assist managers and health professionals in using ethnic group data to develop effective commissioning and health care provision. It also discusses the related policy context, and describes some examples of purchaser good practice. (RH). |
