AnnotationThe aim of this study was to describe the experiences of older Iranian immigrants living in Sweden. In-depth interviews with 30 individuals, aged 75 years and over were conducted, tape-recorded, and then analysed using the phenomenological-hermeneutics method. Topics covered include: social background; life in Iran and reasons for emigration; life in Sweden; social network, including adult children and friends and acquaintances; social activities, including hobbies, and learning Swedish; health and functional ability; and future plans. The findings revealed that older Iranian immigrants living in Stockholm felt ambivalent towards their situation, expressing gratitude while feeling isolated and experiencing a loss of respect. Their high use of medication and health services may be due to their need for social contact. The authors call for further research to provide a deeper understanding of the problems expressed by the participants. (AKM).
