AnnotationThe proportion of women drivers has increased over the past 20 years, together with popular speculations regarding sex differences in driver behaviour. This summary report provides an outline of the main study with the same title, together with main findings and recommendations. The aim was to document gender differences in patterns of accident involvement and driving style in men and women aged between 17 and 50 years. A number of significant sex differences and age differences were found in the following measures: speed, close following, gap acceptance, overtaking, hazard perception, violations, and alcohol and drugs.
