AnnotationThis handbook for the tourist industry is intended to provide mainstream operators (travel agents, tour operators) with an understanding of the main types of disability and information to be able to provide tourism services to people with disabilities in Europe. The following topics are covered: markets and profiles of disabled travellers in Europe; main types of disabilities; principles of providing an effective service for people with disabilities; advising and making bookings for disabled clients; travel and accessibility; booking of accommodation; booking of package holidays; visitors attractions. The final part of the handbook contains examples of good practice from the member states, and a list of sources of information. The appendices contain the following: building considerations for the tourist establishments; design of toilets; accessibility criteria for guests with sight impairment and guests with hearing impairment; disability symbols; and summary of airline provision for disabled passengers.
