A matter of choice [financial and legal complications of paying for care] | Author(s) | Philip Spiers |
Journal title | EAGLE Journal, vol 6, no 4, February/March 1998 |
Pages | pp 10-13 |
Keywords | Social Services Departments ; Public expenditure ; Nursing homes ; Commercial care. |
Annotation | Central government has announced that for 1998/99 local authorities will receive £8.3 billion for social services, £97 million more than expected. The £350 million Special Transitional Grant element will not be conditional on councils spending 85% in the independent sector. The author outlines advice from the Nursing Home Fees Agency (NHFA) for care providers, and the role of the NHFA in helping people to find appropriate residential care for their relatives. Specialist advice should be sought on entitlements from the state, what legal matters they should attend to, and how best to meet ongoing and possible changing care needs. (RH). |
