Older women's health issues | Author(s) | Colleen J Maxwell, Kathryn Oakley |
Journal title | Canadian Journal on Aging, vol 17, no 2, Summer 1998 |
Pages | pp i-ix |
Keywords | Older women ; Health [elderly] ; Canada. |
Annotation | This editorial is based on a White Paper on older women's issues submitted to the Canadian Association on Gerontology. Given the longer life expectancy of women, many health issues of ageing - increased risk of multiple drug use (polypharmacy), concurrent chronic illnesses and disabilities, and falls - have been referred to as women's issues. These issues are discussed in turn, as are the increased risk of institutionalisation, and mental health problems such as depression. The editorial concludes by reviewing preventive health behaviours. (RH). |
