Annotation | This brief article outlines the work of an exploratory research project funded by the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in Women's Health, Canada. The project looks at various areas of abuse suffered by women, for example, the short and long term health consequences of abuse for women suffered throughout their lives, and often inflicted by lifelong partners. In conclusion, it is seen that the short and long term health consequences may depend on the type of injuries sustained over the years, the frequency of the abuse, the health and social supports available to the abused, as well as the woman's own personality and coping mechanisms.
