Annotation | New approaches to dementia care involve care mapping and using activities to help people with dementia to maintain their emotional lives and to improve their well-being. This article outlines person-centred approaches to dementia care such as those pioneered by Tom Kitwood and the University of Bradford Dementia Group; and communication skills and reminiscence work by John Killick in residential care homes run by Westminster Health Care. It also features collaboration by Central & Cecil Housing Trust and Building Community Through Arts in a creative activities project for people with dementia in London; and the Darnall Dementia Group in Sheffield, which provides person-centred support to people with dementia and their carers.
