AnnotationThe purpose of this review is to assess the extent to which people in Harrow are well served by social services. It gives a profile of the authority; and considers evidence about how well the authority responds to the needs of individuals and the population as a whole. The Review Team found good services from the point of view of: sound professional practice; a supportive environment for users, carers, staff, and voluntary and independent sectors; good relationships with other agencies, particularly health and housing; and tight financial control. Key issues are identified on which the social services department (SSD) needs to focus to continue to maintain and improve performance including: looking at the impact and outcomes of policies and services on individuals and the population; working with the community as a whole and recognising it as a resource; and building sustainable services by taking a view across the authority of implications of policy decisions for individuals, the population and resources.
