AnnotationThis is the fifth of a series of reports from a Department of Health (DoH) funded programme of work based at the PSSRU at the University of Kent. The programme aims to improve unit cost estimates over time, drawing on material as it becomes available, including both ongoing and specially commissioned research. Information on the unit costs of all types of community care services are included: services for older people, people with mental health problems, people with learning disabilities, children and their families, people with AIDS/HIV, generic services, and hospital services. Also included are five brief articles which highlight progress made in improving and extending knowledge about costs of services, covering the following topics: measuring labour performance in non-acute NHS trusts; the costs of packages of care for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour; costing services in family centres; costs of social work input to assessment and care package organisation; and the cost of external services for older people living in institutions.
