Annotation | This collection of papers reflects areas of concern for pensioners. Dulcie Groves (University of Lancaster) uses factual information from recent Hansards to summarise the case for better basic state pensions. Joe Harris (NPC Council) discusses the inequity of means-tested benefits. Arup K Banerjee (President, British Geriatrics Society - BGS) looks at standards and delivery of care by the NHS (National Health Service). Home help and the kinds of support people would like are outlined by Tessa Harding, Help the Aged. Other contributions are: Caroline Glendinning (University of Manchester) on changes in primary health care services; Kathy Meade (Older People's Adviser, Hounslow) on the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and on older people and transport; Bob Seers (NPC Council) on travel permits for pensioners and the disabled; and consultation on older people's issues, by Tony Carter (Greater London Federation of the Elderly). The collection concludes with some comments on defence expenditure from Kenneth Glynn (Pensioners for Peace International). (RH). |
