Annotation | This brief article looks at the physical environment of those who are growing older and how this affects their well-being. As an architect, the author puts forward a few general ideas as to how living space can be adapted to accommodate an ageing population, so as to avoid institutional care. Developments in "third age" living in the Netherlands and Scandinavia are viewed positively. A student's final year project for a retirement home which encourages inter-generational activity is described. (KJ). |
