Annotation | Worry influences the way people perceive and interpret information. By filtering and distorting information to protect his or her belief systems, the worrier lowers the probability that new experience will result in new learning, and, thus, personal growth is greatly reduced. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between knowledge of ageing and worry about the ageing process among younger and older adults in Israel. The main finding of the study is that knowledge of ageing was consistently associated with lower worry scores. Of all respondents, those better educated and those better informed about the facts of ageing were found to be less vulnerable to worrisome beliefs that are inaccurate or have low probability of occurrence. The importance of increasing knowledge about ageing through educational programmes is highlighted. (AKM). |
