Annotation | The range of considerations to be taken into account in determining the allocation of scarce medical and health resources for the care of older people is debated. The merits of using chronological age as the main criterion for the distribution of such resources are examined, pointing to the risk of injustice for older people. The debate is not just about resource allocation: it relates to the underlying fundamentals of societal perceptions and practices concerning relations within and between the generations. This paper was presented at the Association for Educational Gerontology (AEG) Annual Conference at Keele University in July 1997. (RH). |
