AnnotationPersonality disorders in older age may be more prevalent than once believed. This paper reports on an interview study which analysed what criteria clinicians actually use when making the diagnosis of personality disorder in their older patients, the congruence with Axis II diagnoses in the patients' charts, and the use of countertransference in the diagnostic process. Specific countertransference themes informing the diagnosis were identified, including anger/rage, disconnected/arelational, and neediness/helplessness. (AKM).
