Annotation | This report is the first in a series of publications by the Employers Forum on Age (EFA), in which advice and guidance is presented on a range of issues concerning the relationship between 'Age, employment and business'. The guidance contained was assembled at a workshop at the headquarters of the Nationwide Building Society, Swindon, in November 1996. The report looks at the changing business environment, in which successful employers will want to employ individuals with a wide range of skills. The implications of this strategy for developing a balanced workforce are examined, as is the need to identify the changing needs of present and future employees. Also included are checklists on: age and equal opportunities; recruitment policy and procedures; and training, development and career guidance. Appendices include a policy statement on age limits in recruitment drawn up by the Carnegie Third Age Programme and 'People Management' (official magazine of the Institute of Personnel and Development), and a list of examples of age-restricting recruitment language taken from job advertisements.
