Annotation | The central argument is that substance misusers (those with a drug or alcohol disorder) and with a mental health problem have commonly failed to gain access to adequate treatment from either mental health or substance misuse services for their dual diagnosis. Chapters cover: case studies of clients; the number of people with a dual diagnosis; a literature review; and a review of relevant national guidance. A study of responses to those with a dual diagnosis in one area of the UK examines local strategies, agency policies and other documentation, on the basis of which the authors make recommendations.
