Annotation | The article by Fry in this issue of the Counseling Psychologist does "provide the gerocounsellor with a good and necessary overview of the social gerontology theories of ageing". However, social theories are not sufficient in clinical work. This is demonstrated in the case study presented of a bereaved octogenarian, which provides anecdotal support that the socioenvironmental framework can be the flexible structure for gerocounselling. Whereas Fry gives the impression that geropsychology therapy resources are lacking, Dettmann has at least 30 books on the subject, and further new publications are available. (RH). |
