Annotation | This article describes a five-stage model for teaching new students on an MA in Gerontology course to read critically. The model was developed to enable students previously trained in a single discipline or field to read with comprehension, judge and utilise written materials from any sources that describe, explain or intend to affect old people. The model is introduced in the foundation course, and reinforced in subsequent courses. Graduates from the course report that they continue to use critical reading skills acquired from the application of the model in reading gerontological literature from whatever sources. Examples of course handouts are included. (RH). |
