Annotation | This article presents a conceptual framework for training students in a Master of Arts in Social Gerontology curriculum for retirement counselling, at the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. A rationale for including retirement planning in the social gerontology curriculum, training social gerontologists in retirement counselling, the potential effects for the older population counselled by these professionals, and the results for social gerontologists of their expanded job description are discussed. However, preparation for the course requires more teachers to train the students, and for the specific needs of those approaching retirement to be considered. (RH). |
