Annotation | Today's youth will eventually have to face financial, manpower and social changes leading to more responsibilities for the care of their parents, as well as an increasing personal cost supporting health and social needs of a large retirement population. Young people must therefore understand the impact of the ageing process on their lives, on the lives of their parents, and on society. To achieve this, policies must be developed to prepare primary and secondary school teachers in their professional and continuing education, to teach their pupils about issues on ageing. Age specific curricula must be made available, and textbooks provided reflecting realistic information on ageing at all levels of understanding. This article discusses these issues and describes a model course. (RH). |
