Annotation | The objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) has been used in medical schools and residential courses worldwide, to evaluate skills in various programmes; and in some settings, it is used as an exercise for teaching the physical examination and medical interview. The authors developed and piloted an innovative geriatrics objective structured clinical examination (GOSCE), that was used primarily as a tool for teaching, rather than for clinical assessment. This article describes the pilot project, which demonstrates that the GOSCE is an effective teaching method, and provides the impetus to residential courses to incorporate its use into their curriculum.
