Annotation | Population ageing in less developed countries has increasingly become a matter of public policy, and there is widespread concern over how to finance the care for older people. This paper argues that the concepts of ageing and dependency must be carefully examined, and that the older population must not be singled out as dependent. The economic implications of an ageing population are closely related to the macro-economic performance of a society over time. Intergenerational cooperation is essential since the work and savings of the present generation provide subsistence for both the present and future generations. (AKM). |
