AnnotationThis summary of a fuller report of the review aims to give local people a clear and independent view of how well Southwark responds to those who need information and help, plans for its population as a whole, and uses its resources. Overall, the Joint Review found that people in Southwark are well served, and that the authority has responded to the challenge of delivering services to racially diverse and very deprived communities. The authority is well able to deliver the further improvements identified through the review: ensuring that users' needs are always central to professional practice; checking that improvement initiatives are working before going on to the next improvement; scrutinising costs of services and making sure that they work well for users; increasing the choices open to older people seeking good quality residential care within the borough; and improving information available to Borough Councillors about overall service performance, so that they know whether their policies are working and whether the people they represent are well served. A summary of Southwark's Action Plan is also included. (RH).
