Annotation | An 18-month evaluation project undertaken by McGill Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) in Canada attempts to analyse the popularity of the peer learning model among older people. Survey results suggest an effective and rewarding environment for learning, with a high level of satisfaction. The nature of the educational experience varies according to the personalities of learners and the style of moderators, but in general the rewards are simple: the more one participates, the more one learns. Because this model is readily transferable to different environments, it has enormous potential to extend learning beyond the traditional classroom. The trend in college-based programmes toward the peer-learning model demonstrates older people's desire to set their own direction toward continuous learning. (RH). |
