AnnotationSince the introduction of the NHS and Community Care Act 1990 there has been a large and rapid growth in domiciliary care services, particularly in independent sector provision. This workbook, originally commissioned by the Social Services Inspectorate (SSI) at the Department of Health (DoH) provides an overview of recent changes in policy and market development in domiciliary care and considers their implications for a range of interest groups. The first part contains a general introduction and context setting, focusing on the following: policy; developments in the size and nature of domiciliary care markets; strategies for domiciliary care commissioning and contracting; quality standards, monitoring and regulation, including a prototype checklist for users and carers. The second part contains separate sections designed for elected members, commissioning and contracts managers, care managers, user and carer groups and advocacy services, independent and local authority sector domiciliary care providers. For each of the interest groups, the corresponding sections describe a number of areas for attention and development, and gives practical examples of how to address these. (AKM).
