Annotation | This report, the first in an annual series, provides information about the structure and work of local authority social services department (SSD) registration and inspection units in England. The units register and inspect a range of social services provided by the local authority, private and voluntary sectors, including residential care for older people, and people with disabilities and learning disabilities, children's homes, boarding schools, and day care services for young children. The report covers the following: workload and performance of the units; staffing; lay assessors; inspection reports and follow up action; advisory panels; and costs. Data was gathered from questionnaires completed by unit heads of all 107 registration and inspection units during the period 1 April 1994 to 31 March 1995. (AKM). |
