Annotation | This is the first article of a series about the problems and issues facing younger people with dementia and their families. It looks at the genetic and family issues for younger persons with Familial Alzheimer's Disease (FAD). A person affected by FAD has a 50% chance of passing the affected gene on to their offspring. The effects of the uncertainty of at-risk family members who do not know whether they will develop FAD are discussed, as are issues related to genetic testing and counselling. (AKM). |
