AnnotationThe aim of this research was to examine the residential relocation and stability of older people in six rural Welsh communities over sixteen years. Quantitative data from the Bangor Longitudinal Study of Ageing was used, and five types of move were developed through statistical analysis. The first three types of move reflect the desire for an improvement in housing or environment: long distance retirement move; wide choice local amenity move; and narrow choice local amenity move. A move for low levels of assistance is reflected by the need for assistance from a relative, or for sheltered accommodation. The last type, a move for high levels of assistance, is triggered by poor health. (RH).
