AnnotationBrazil is experiencing the "transitional model" of demographic transition. This article presents some characteristics of this process, mainly those related to the rapid decline in fertility rates and to the differences among the poorer and richer groups and regions. To illustrate, preliminary results of the 1991 and 1996 Censuses, surveys of 1993 and 1995, and recent projections are used. (RH).
