Annotation | Over recent years a number of expert reports have reviewed the literature on diet and cancer and made recommendations designed to reduce the risk of cancer. This report builds on earlier work and is the most comprehensive review of diet and cancer research from a global perspective to date. The first part of the report provides some background information to patterns of diet and cancer, and looks at some of the scientific evidence and judgement. The second part focuses on the main cancer sites and the links between the cancers and various types of diet and foods. In part three, the relationships between the dietary constituents, such as carbohydrates, fats and protein, and various types of cancer are examined. In the final part, fourteen dietary recommendations agreed by the expert panel are outlined, and placed in a broad context of the prevention of disease. (AKM). |
