Annotation | Art activities, such as painting and drawing, often form part of the activities programmes of day care centres, residential care homes and nursing homes, yet they may not be specifically geared towards the needs of older people. Based on personal practical experience, the author of this book outlines a method for assessing the interests and needs of older persons' art groups. A set of lesson plans is included, covering the various elements of art, still life, value and form, perspective and space, and mixed media. In addition, teaching older people to evaluate works of art, and art history, are also explored. Lists of US sources for prints and audiovisual materials, art supplies, adaptive equipment and activity therapy, and professional organisations and periodicals, are included in the appendices.
