Fit is for life: why exercise is vital for everyone | Author(s) | Susie Dinan |
Journal title | Journal of Dementia Care, vol 6, no 3, May - June 1998 |
Pages | pp 22-25 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Exercise ; Mobility. |
Annotation | The benefits of regular physical exercise apply to most individuals, yet, statistics show that a large proportion of the older population is inactive, in particular people with dementia. The author suggests that activity and music sessions for people with dementia should be extended to include exercises that promote strength, mobility and motor skills. If the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) were extended to include daily and weekly exercises, people with dementia would gain improved health and, perhaps, improved quality of life. (AKM). |
