Annotation | Memory groups are designed to provide education and information to participants about how memory works and ways of improving a failing memory. In this article, the author describes the work of the Portsmouth memory group for people in the early stages of dementia. The participants of the group reported that meeting with others with dementia was the most valuable aspect of the group, while their family members and carers felt that both peer and professional support were beneficial.
