Annotation | Diabetes is a vast topic, and there is a need for more basic epidemiological studies of its incidence in older people. Research on its aetiology, diagnosis, management, complications and organisation of services is reviewed. The section on management of the disease includes: teaching patients how to deal with the disorder; diet; oral hypoglycaemic (OHA) therapy; insulin therapy; hypoglycaemia; hyperglycaemia; and intercurrent illness. Complications concerning foot ulceration, cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, ocular problems, nephropathy, and infection are reviewed. (RH). |
