AnnotationThe Housing Access Audit was devised to collect case study evidence about housing accessibility issues faced by older people, as part of Age Concern's More Than Bricks and Mortar Campaign. Findings and respondents' comments are presented regarding: getting in and out of homes; getting around inside; the kitchen; bathroom and toilet; coping alone; and applying for adaptations. A Ten Point Checklist sets out recommendations on: level approaches to dwellings; width of doors; space in hallways, corridors and rooms; adequate storage space; accessible toilet with wash basin; ground floor living room large enough to accommodate a bed; electrical controls within easy reach; doors, windows and locks secure yet convenient to open and operate; and staircases suitable for future installation of a stairlift.
