AnnotationThis consultation document describes the first stage in the development of a set of national comparative clinical effectiveness indicators to assess health authorities' success in securing clinically effective services. The document proposes a set of 14 evidence based indicators in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention, diagnostic assessment and investigation, treatment and rehabilitation care. It also describes how the indicators link with the new national performance framework and the clinical effectiveness performance development network, which were introduced in the White Paper The New NHS Modern and Dependable (1997), and in the consultation document A Framework for Assessing Performance (1998). Comments are invited by 8 August 1998. (AKM).
