Annotation | Depression in older people is strongly correlated with physical illness. Treatment with antidepressants is well tolerated and effective, but may take eight to twelve weeks to become noticeable. Social support is important, both to treat mild depression and to prevent further relapse. The author discusses the special problems and rewards involved in managing depression in physically ill older patients. (RH). |
