Acute illness special problems in nursing home residents | Author(s) | Kalman Kafetz |
Journal title | Geriatric Medicine, vol 28, no 3, March 1998 |
Pages | pp 25-26 |
Keywords | Acute illness ; Medical care ; Residents [care homes] ; Nursing homes ; Admission [hospitals]. |
Annotation | Frail older patients are now often looked after in private nursing homes rather than in NHS long-stay wards, and there is concern that this change may increase the load on acute hospitals when nursing home residents become ill. The author of this article believes that to prevent unnecessary acute hospitalisation, geriatricians in NHS hospitals should be responsible for the care of frail patients. (RH). |
